2019 Torbreck Hillside Vineyard Shiraz Roussanne, Barossa Valley SA Aus

A$34.50

PRODUCER | In 2015 Torbreck released The Laird, priced just above Australia’s most expensive wine, Penfolds Grange, scrutiny was strong but Torbreck stood tall as one of the great producers, particularly of red wine in Australia. It’s pretty tough to say that $700+ for a bottle of wine is good value but, at the lower end, Torbreck produce extremely good value wines and, for me, chief among them is this Shiraz Roussanne.

WINE | Torbreck having always leaned towards the styles of the Northern Rhône, (fermenting reds with a small percentage of white) - Shiraz is co-fermented with the skins of Roussanne, adding aromatics and ‘prettiness’ to the dense red fruit characters.

TASTING | A wine of elegance and poise, whilst retaining the richness of its terroir, aromas of violets and blackberries, it fills the mouth with dark fruit flavours and finishes clean and dry.
